Product Description

Fire-rated glass is a safety glazing built to resist the spread of fire and smoke for a specified period. Special materials and production processes give it thermal resistance and structural integrity at high temperatures, so doors, windows, partitions and facades stay sealed in conditions where ordinary glass would fail within minutes. By containing the fire, it protects occupants, extends evacuation time and supports firefighting — all without losing the transparency and daylight of ordinary glazing.

Three families of fire-rated glazing come from AUGTON GLASS. Monolithic glass-ceramic, 5mm thick, covers non-impact locations such as transoms and windows with ratings up to 90 minutes and excellent color rendition. For impact-rated locations such as door lites, sidelites and transoms, the same glass-ceramic carries a surface-applied safety film — up to 90 minutes, and up to 180 minutes in doors. Laminated glass-ceramic, about 8mm, combines fire performance with a full impact safety rating for the same applications.

Specifiers should note that fire-protective glazing of this type is not a barrier to radiant heat and does not replace fire-resistive assemblies tested to ASTM E119 or UL 263 — temperature-rise products are the right choice where those criteria apply. All our fire-rated glass is made under certified quality systems, supplied with test reports and classification certificates, and must be cut, edged and drilled before delivery.

Key Features

  • Fire-rated for 20 to 180 minutes, with the required hose-stream test
  • Passes the positive pressure test standard UL 10C
  • Withstands thermal shock from rapid temperature change
  • Film and laminated versions are impact safety-rated to ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat. I / II
  • Can be lightly sandblasted or supplied with surface-applied opacity or decorative film without affecting the fire rating
  • Suitable for insulated glazing units and approved for use with any fire-rated frame of the same rating

Frequently Asked Questions

What thicknesses and sizes are available for Fire-Rated Glass?

Fire-Rated Glass is available in 5mm – 8mm. Jumbo sizes up to 3.66m x 12m are possible, and custom cutting to your drawings is supported.

Do you offer custom processing?

Yes. Custom sizes, light sandblasting, opacity or decorative films, and insulated glazing constructions on request — finishing must be completed before delivery - just send us your drawings, sizes or special requirements.

What certifications do your products hold?

Fire-rated glazing is tested to UL 10C and classified to EN 13501-2 and BS 476 Part 22 by accredited laboratories; impact-safety versions meet ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Cat. I / II. ISO 9001 quality systems apply throughout, and test reports plus classification certificates are supplied with every project order for approval by local authorities having jurisdiction.

How is the glass packed for export shipping?

Sheets are separated by anti-scratch paper interlayers and packed into ISPM15 heat-treated solid wooden crates with rainproof wrapping and steel strapping. Edge protectors and vertical storage keep rated edges and interlayer edges intact during transport.

Production Line & Export Packaging

Certified Fire-Rated Glass Production

Glass-ceramic sheets are formed and annealed under controlled crystallization schedules, then inspected for flatness and clarity; safety-film and laminated versions are processed on dedicated lines with full coverage verification. Every batch is checked for thickness, surface quality and rating consistency before release.
