Product Description
Heat soaked glass is tempered glass subjected to an extra heat treatment, the heat-soak test (HST) carried out per BS EN 14179, which lowers the risk of spontaneous breakage linked to critical nickel sulphide (NiS) inclusions in the glass.
As a destructive test, HST weeds out the majority of at-risk panes. It cannot remove 100% of risky glass, yet the likelihood of spontaneous breakage drops markedly. Wherever fractured tempered glass could compromise structural stability, barrier function or user safety, HST is the recommended precaution.
AUGTON GLASS operates BS EN 14179 compliant heat-soak furnaces and keeps full process records for every batch, supplying heat soaked tempered glass factory-direct to customers worldwide.

- Advised wherever structural stability, barrier function or user safety could be at stake
- Suitable for every tempered glass thickness from 4mm to 19mm
- Complete process records kept per heat-soak batch, and test reports are available
- Tempering, drilling, edgework and coating combined within one factory

Optical Performance Parameters
Heat-soak test per BS EN 14179: glass is held at 290°C ± 10°C for a defined holding period so that glass containing critical nickel sulphide inclusions breaks inside the furnace rather than after installation. HST considerably reduces — but cannot fully eliminate — spontaneous breakage risk. Extra charge applies.
