Also termed bullet-resistant glass, bulletproof glass typically consists of three or more glass layers laminated with PVB film of differing thicknesses. Light-transmitting in appearance, it is an excellent security material providing varying degrees of protection against arms fire assault.
On impact, the elastomeric PVB interlayers absorb and disperse the energy: cracking may occur, yet the shattered layers stay bonded and penetration is stopped.
